Why We Have Walter Gotschke’s 1988 Art On Our Wall

Why do we have 35 year old artwork on our wall?

A calendar.

Mark Kreider, our founder, is a huge fan of Porsche, which is also represented on a poster and a copy of the logo on the wall in our office in addition to this mural. (Yes, the mural says “Ferrari,” but keep reading.)

For many years, he received a calendar annually from Moore Motors in Philadelphia. Out of all those calendars, he kept this one:

The 1988 Porsche calendar with art by Walter Gotschke, commissioned by Porsche some time after their 7th consecutive win at Le Mans. In the particular piece on our wall, it depicts the 1970 Targa Florio which Porsche won with their 908/03 driven by Joseph Siffert, beating out the Ferrari 512. The Porsche 908/02 is also featured on the left in the artwork, which got 4th in the race overall.

The calendar hung on the wall here for years and years, surviving multiple location changes for the company as it moved from Philadelphia to Manheim, PA. A few years ago, it was time for a remodel of the interior of the dealership and Mark finally had a use for his calendar.

He reached out to the estate of the late Gotschke and secured the ability to use his art on our wall, which was installed by Marlite shortly thereafter. The sound baffles hanging from the ceiling are even colored to match the artwork.

It’s a fabulous work – and if you come in, we can show you the rest of the calendar.
